What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical body-contouring procedure that improves the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat and, when necessary, tightening weakened or separated abdominal muscles. Unlike weight-loss procedures, a tummy tuck reshapes the abdominal contour rather than reducing body weight.
Many patients develop a condition known as diastasis recti, in which the abdominal muscles separate following pregnancy or significant stretching of the abdominal wall. During surgery, Dr. Halani will repair these muscles to restore support and create a flatter abdominal profile. The procedure may also improve skin laxity, reduce hanging skin after weight loss, and remove stretched skin that may contain stretch marks, particularly beneath the navel.
