What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
A deep plane facelift is an advanced facelift technique that addresses facial aging at the level of the deeper soft tissues. Rather than primarily tightening or repositioning the skin and superficial SMAS layer, the deep plane approach involves releasing selected retaining ligaments and mobilizing the deeper facial tissues as a composite unit.
This allows the cheek and midface to be elevated more naturally while reducing reliance on tension in the skin. Depending on the patient’s anatomy, a deep plane facelift may improve midface descent, soften prominent nasolabial folds, reduce jowling, and restore definition along the jawline.
A deep plane facelift is not simply a more extensive version of every other facelift. The ideal technique depends on the patient’s anatomy, aging pattern, skin quality, and surgical goals. Every face is unique and so during consultation, Dr. Halani evaluates these factors to determine whether a deep plane approach is appropriate and how the procedure should be customized.
